Enterprises of the “Rostock Holding” group began harvesting on July 24.
Harvesting of winter wheat is planned on an area of 1930 hectares, spring barley – 741 hectares. The bunker yield of winter wheat is expected at the level of 5.0 t/ha of food grain. We expect that the gross harvest of early grains will exceed 11,000 tons.
This year’s harvest is complicated by a number of war-related problems. In particular, it is the high cost of fuel, shortage of workers due to mobilization, threats of shelling. The weather makes its adjustments: heavy rainfall slows down the harvest.
“In April, we were not even going to sow the fields because of the occupation. But when the Ukrainian military entered the territory where our farms are located, they realized that we could work,” said the general director of Rostock Holding, Dmytro Kupavtsev.
Due to the war and the problems caused by it, the company’s management decided to adjust the crop rotation. “We reduced the total sowing area, reduced the number of sunflowers, removed corn because it is very expensive, and we did not have enough working capital. They were looking for credit finance to cover the costs of sowing,” explained D. Kupavtsev.
Despite this, Rostock Holding continues to work. Harvesting of early cereals, according to preliminary plans, should be completed by August 15, 2022.
This year, the issue of saving the harvested grain will be a challenge for the company. It has not yet been possible to remove the grain of the previous harvest and free up the elevator capacity, as freight transportation by rail is still not rhythmic and predictable.
